Il cibo scadente…

25 novembre. Alle 11.15 il carrello del vitto passa lungo i corridoi del blocco B del carcere delle Vallette. L’odore di andato a male volteggia nell’aria, chi riceve la carne ne osserva l’aspetto disgustoso, qualcuno avvisa gli altri di non mangiarla. Dalla Decima sezione si inizia a battere. Da giorni il cibo è immangiabile. La Nona sezione si aggrega al fracasso al grido «Il cibo scadente lo mangia l’assistente!». I detenuti della Nona lasciano i piatti fuori dalla cella. In Decima buttano in corridoio di tutto, anche pezzi di materassi e strisce di giornale infuocate. Il baccano in Nona va avanti per un’ora, in Decima fino all’una, imperterriti. Un graduato è costretto a salire in sezione e capire il motivo della protesta: vengono aperte le celle di alcuni, questi ricevono la promessa di controllare assieme le cucine l’indomani – il giorno dopo nessuno si farà vedere. Invece giù all’aria i battitori delle differenti sezioni s’incontrano entusiasti, si salutano con uno scrosciante applauso e strette di mano. Nel cortile del passeggio si abbozza un’assemblea. Che ne sarà del brodo colorato di domani?
